Does program curricula incorporate employability skill standards?
Yes
How are employability skill standards incorporated into the program?
Problem-solving and critical thinking are used in many courses, but our PreEngineering and Manufacturing Course (Intro to Manufacturing), specifically addresses employability skills.
Program/business partnerships
Yes - We have worked together with Workforce Alliance to write grants which will be used for training and curriculum writing this summer(2021). We have also partnered with AARP to connect with retired manufacturers who work with our teachers and students. We have many local business partners that support our pre-apprenticeship programs as well.
Community Partners
Our district collaborates with the Wallingford Economic Development Commission, Wallingford Center Inc, and the HUBcap Wallingford business incubator. At HUBcap, for the past year and a half we have run community employment pipelines. Our third sessions will take place this month.
Work-based learning opportunities/internships
Pre-apprenticeships, Simulated work environments
Pre-apprenticeships
Students who complete our PreEngineering and Advanced Manufacturing course are eligible for a Connecticut Department of Labor Apprenticeship Certificate. This credits them 80 hours towards an apprenticeship and makes them eligible to work under the age of 18 in an approved pre-apprenticeship program.
CTO’s
Related to manufacturing we have TSA. This is an area we need to work to develop further.
