Work is being done at the national level to attract women to industries where they are underrepresented.
The U.S. Department of Labor announced an additional $3.4 million to the Women in Apprenticeship and Nontraditional Occupations Technical Assistance Grant Program.
The money will fund up to nine grants to keep the number of women in targeted industries growing.
According to DOL, women make up nearly half of the labor force, but less than 13% of registered apprenticeships.
Community-based organizations can apply for the grants if they actively work to recruit and train women in registered apprenticeships and nontraditional jobs.
Focus industries include manufacturing, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and healthcare.
Officials with the Department of Labor identified the industries as high-growth, high-wage industries where women should be represented more equally.
Applications should be submitted online before June 20, 2022.
